Your first one can be a little challenging. You really should have a mechanically inclined friend help you with the first one. After that starters are a breeze to change. Always unhook your negative battery terminal before you start. Yes, it's THAT important. Crawl down under the rear side of the engine (probably passenger side) and take off the starter. Pay SPECIAL ATTENTION to how the wires are hooked up. Make a diagram on an old piece of cardboard to assist you with the new one. Remove the old one. Take it to NAPA - Pep Boys - Parts Plus - etc. for a new one. They are going to want your old one so take it with you. Put the new one on in reverse order. Reconnect the battery. Really!!!! Get a buddy to help with the first one.
i cannot get the wheel off the blower motor
The starter is on the side of the engine at the bottom.
the solenoid on that year ford starter is on top of the starter itself. that starter is used on a wide variety of ford products.

could be right in front of the battery - that's where it is on my 89
If the red wire is a smaller wire to the starter motor, then its a faulty ignition switch. If its the large wire to the starter, then its meant to be live all the time. hope this helps
Computer controlled and cannot be adjusted.........Boo Ford......

In my 98 E350 6.8 it is under the dash. you have to pull the dash off to change it
Most commonly, it's the starter or the starter was wired wrong when it was installed. More rarely, it can also be the keyswitch or even a bad gear on the flex-plate.
