I dont exactly know what is wrong but mine is a '95 Cavalier Coupe and it says i have full tank of gas(all of the time) and i got some advice (not sure if its good) check your manuel and it may be a fuse or something with the wiring near your fuel tank underneath the car(should be an easy fix)
It is driven by the timing chain and is a pretty big job if you have never done it. Get help form someone that has done it before. You risk destroying the engine if not done right. But you will need (2) 8mm bolts to hold the cams in time.

Count how many time it shifts gears. If it shifts 3 times it is 4 speed or 2 times it is a 3 speed.
