open your trunk (front of car) and unclip it from the speedo. the other end of the cable goes into the dust cap on the left front wheel. you will see the square nub sticking out of the dust cap unhook the clip and pull the cable out of the back of the wheel . reverse the removeal to install
You are NOT going to "change" the transmission on this car. It's too old. You're going to have to pull your transmission and send it to Rancho Performance Transaxles for rebuilding. If you look in your copy of "How to Keep Your Volkswagen Alive," the procedure for getting the transmission out is in there. Basically, remove the engine, then everything connected to the transmission, drain the oil out of it and use a transmission jack to extract the trans from the car.
