Changing the timing chain and sprockets on a Chevy 2.8V6. I have only done this job on an engine out of the car, but I will give a quick run down on the steps involved.

I would recommend you consult a service manual for timing mark details as well as torque values.

It is helpful to set the engine timing at top dead center in the firing position before starting dis-assembly.

1. Raise the car as required and drain the coolant into a suitable container.

2. Loosen the adjusters and remove the several drive belts taking note of which goes where as well as routing.

3. Remove the pulley from the water pump.

4. Take the bottom radiator hose off of the water pump. Remove the bolts that hold the water pump in place and remove the water pump.

5. Remove the bolts that hold the pulley to the crankshaft damper and remove the pulley. This may require the engine be raised for clearance.

6. Remove the bolt that holds the crankshaft damper in place and use a suitable puller to remove it from the engine.

7. Remove all the bolts that hold the timing chain cover in place and remove it. Make note of where the bolts go for replacement later. Take the timing chain cover off of the front of the block.

8. Make note of the timing marks on the sprockets. If you set the timing on top dead center to start with they should both be at the top of the respective sprockets. If they are not there then it is easier to set the timing if they are set there before you remove the chain and sprockets.

9. Remove the bolt that holds the upper timing chain sprocket in place and then pull the cam shaft sprocket off of the cam. You can then remove the timing chain and the crankshaft sprocket. The crankshaft sprocket is supposed to just slide off, but if it is stuck in place you may need a puller to get it off.

Avoid turning the cam as it is possible to bend the valve stems if the valve hits the piston.

It is recommended that the sprockets and timing chain all be replaced at once. It is said that if you replace the chain and not the sprockets the chain will wear out more quickly on the worn sprockets. It is also recommended that you replace the timing chain tensioner at this time. Leaving the worn tensioner in will allow slop of the chain which can cause timing to shift .

Reverse the steps to put the new chain in place and then put the timing cover back on followed by the water pump etc.

Is Chevrolet celebrity 1986 has the same machine as the Chevrolet celebrity up to 1992?

The last year the Chevrolet Celebrity was produced was 1990, not 1992. And although there were some minor changes, the car was largely unchanged between 1986 and 1990. The standard I-4 engine is exactly the same, as well as the frame and body. I believe the headlight arrangements may have changed, as well as some of the dash detailing and the standard radio, but overall the car is largely the same.
