To change the transmission fluid on your Chevy Malibu 2005, first, pull off the pan, drain the fluid, and replace it.
You will have to remove the transmission pan that is on the bottom of the transmission to drain the fluid.
I recently had this done and it takes about 7 quarts to change it. cost about 40 bucks at auto zone.
The Cobalt is a closed system. That means you can not add trans fluid, it has to go to the dealer to get it done right. rev. this is not a closed system. you can add fluid on top of the trans there is a fill cap. best thing to do if your not sure is to drop the pan and change the filter and add 7 qts of fluid. The only easily done maintenances for a manual or automatic transmission is the transmission fluid change. While Chevy says that this should be done every 100,000 miles, I did mine at 50,000 with royal purple and the transmission has been fantastic since then. I am currently at 85,000 with an original clutch and transmission.
Why? There is no need to change the manual transmission fluid in a 2 year old vehicle.
You should probably change a Chevy Impala transmission fluid every 3000 miles. This also applies to most vehicles on the road today. It is also important to check your transmission fluid at least twice a month.
Remove the plug from the bottom of your 2000 Chevy transmission. Allow the transmission to completely drained out. Return the transmission plug to its original position. Fill the transmission with new fluid.
