A total replacement takes about 20 quarts.
1. Drain the pan
2. drop the pan
3. replace the filter
4. Replace the pan
5. replace the plug.
6. Remove the trans fluid return line that comes from the radiator to the bottom of the transmission.
7. Fill the transmission with about 8 quarts (from the dipstick tube).
8. Have someone start the truck - be careful as old fluid form the Torque Converter(TC) will flow out from the disconnected line.
9. After a few quarts runs out, have the person that started the truck shut it off.
This process is pumping fluid from the pan into the TC and out through the disconnected line.
10. Add more fluid to the pan through the dipstick tube
Repeat steps 7 - 10 until the fluid comes out bright red like it goes in.
11. Replace the line and check the fluid level - adjust as needed.
