first thing is to secure the van by chocking the wheels and setting the parking brake. Crawl under the van with a ratchet, extension and a 1/2" socket. Take the bolts loose on the trans pan. Put your drain pan under it. Now it gets messy. With the bolts loose, not completely out, pry the pan loose from the trans. Oil will come out. Take the bolts out on one side and catch all the oil you can. take the rest out tilting the pan as you go toward the drain pan. The last couple of bolts will have to be remover with one hand while you hold the pan up with the other. take the pan completely off and drain it and clean it. Remove the old gasket. the filter is attached to the trans with a small bolt. Remove it and replace it with the new one. Install the new gasket on the pan and use a few bolts in the corners to hold it in place. Don't use silicone! Bolt the pan in place and add 5 quarts on trans fluid and your ready. Check for leaks and fluid level before you take it for a ride.
Mercon V if it has an A/T.
Every 30,000 miles
You fill the transmission fluid on the 1988 F250 diesel at the dipstick of the transmission. You will need a filler funnel in order to keep spillage to a minimum.
The 1994 takes Mercon transmission fluid
I believe that the type of fluid to use is engraved into the automatic transmission fluid level dipstick
Store under the drain pan of the transmission.
26.4 pints or 11.2 litres
Motorcraft MERCON ATF ( automatic transmission fluid ) according to the owners manual
Motorcraft MERCON automatic transmission fluid ( for the C6 / 4R70W / E4OD automatic transmissions ) - according to the owners manual
should be atf but check owners manual for more information
go to the parts store and they will be able to give you the specific type fluid you would need for a furd!
Mercon 3 or equivalent Mercon 5 would be ok too. Just make sure when you change it that red comes out if so then trans fluid is the replacement oil. Kinda weird huh. Typically manuals hold gear oil??? Leave it to ford to change it all up.
