How do you change valve cover gasket on 1998 Lincoln mark viii?

Do not do it if you do not need to. The easy way is to have a spare motor and replace it, removing motor from under and out.

Still inclined to fix a valve cover gasket? The drivers side valve cover needs the plastic cowl removed; the peice that is below the bottom edge of windshield also the wipers and its motor and armatures.

Your still not ready to remove valve cover, now unbolt the motor mount located under motor for the side working on. Now with a jack lift that side of motor 6 to eight inches please remember radiator hoses are still attached and they to are moving with the lift of the motor and the radiator is not moving.

Guess what your still not ready to remove valve cover...remove the cover for the spark plugs and remove spark plug electrical connections making note of correct cylinder goes to each connection.

The bolts for the valve covers are right on top remove use an old egg create to ensure each bolt goes back into the hole removed.

Guess what now you'll notice the brake lines are in the way from the master cylinder. For easy reassembly of valve cover remove brake fluid reservoir from brake booster or undo the two offending brake lines from the master cylinder and fight the gasket falling off valve cover on reassembly.

Do only one Valve cover at a time and reinsert and tighten that sides motor mount before doing the other side.
