How do you change water pump 1987 Honda VT700C Shadow motorcycle?

1. Remove the engine

2. Disconnect the electrical connector from the oil pressure switch.

3. Remove the bolts securing the water pump cover and remove cover and the hose.

(Don't lose the locating dowels!)

4. Take the water pump out.

Installing:

1. Inside the crankcase rotate the oil pump shaft so the tab on the end of the shaft is vertical.

2. Apply a coat of new engine oil to the new O ring seal on the water pump housing.

3. Position the groove on the water pump shaft so it will line up with the tab on the oil pump shaft.

4. Install the water pump into the crankcase and slightly wiggle the water pump impeller to assure the tab and the groove are lined up. Push the water assembly all the way on until it is properly seated against the crankcase.

The assembly should fit snugly without using any force. If it will not fit properly, pull the assembly and realign the tab of the oil pump shaft and the groove on the water pump.

Caution: Do not install thecover or any bolts until the assembly is completely seated against the crankcase. Do not try to force the assembly into place with the mounting screws.

5. Make sure the dowels pins are installed in the water pump assembly.

6. Make sure the O ring seal is installed in the water pump assembly.

7. Install the water pump cover and bolts and tighten the bolts securely.

8. Connect the electrical connector onto the oil pressure switch.

9. Install the engine into the frame .

10. Refill the cooling system with anti-freeze.

11. Start the bike and check for leaks.
