You can check the automatic Transmission Fluid on an Olds Alero by finding the check plug. It is located about half way down on the transmission. Loosen the plug and slowly pull it out.
Same place you check the fluid level.
use, DEXRON III automatic transmission fluid
All automatic transmissions add fluid in the dipstick tube.
Can't find it ? It does not have one ! Only has a fill cap. Fluid is checked by removing a plug on transmissin. This is great job for GM dealer.
how do you check transmission fluids
Is your Alero a 2.4, a 2.2 ecotec or a 3400?
The 2000 Oldsmobile Alero typically requires about 4 to 6 quarts of automatic transmission fluid for a fluid change, depending on whether you're just changing the fluid or also replacing the filter. It's important to check the owner's manual for the specific transmission type and fluid capacity. Always use the recommended type of transmission fluid for optimal performance.
There is no definite way to check the ATF in a 2000 Alero. There is a filler cap on the left side of the transaxle, but no dip stick. I changed the filter and fluid in mine recently and measured the drained fluid best I could and replaced it with a like amount plus one and a half quarts. This brought the level that was visible in the filler hole to about two inches below the top. A poor system, at best.
in the dipstick hole.
need to know if it is and automatic or a standard shift transmission Automatic has no dipstick to check trans fluid.
