automatic has a dipstick under the hood. manual should have a plug on the side of it.

You add fluid the same place you check the fluid level.
Leave idling, on level ground, at running temp
Check for a vacuum leak.
Talk to your Mazda dealer but, it sounds like a problem with your automatic transmission and just like a check engine light it may be a number of problems.
Check your battery, rpm computer controlled.
