how do I check oil in the rear end of a 3600 ford tractor
Right next to where to PTO shaft comes out of the back of the tractor there is a sight glass for the hydraulic fluid.
Dipstick
plug in side of tran or dipsteck
dip stick check it
Dipstick on transmission top-right
on top of transmission case near gear shift, there will be a square headed bolt. remove this and you will be able to check transmission oil. to check hydraulic fuid, u need to gind the fluid resevoir. remove cap and use a stick to dip in and see how much fluid is in it I can only point you to a couple sources. 1 - Check the hydraulic pump. Shaft. Rubber gasket. Bearing. 2 - Check the oil pipes. Junction. 3 - Hydraulic cylinder and piston check. Oil leakage. Leverage.
Looking at the rear of the tractor you will see two bolts above the center link bar on the rear axle. These are the filler plugs for your hydraulic and rear axle. Look under the driver side of your seat, there is a dipstick to check the hydraulic, differential, and wet-brake fluid levels.

Hydraulic fluid is hydraulic oil.... as for the type you use, depends on your system. I used to own two tractor-trailer end dumps, and I actually used ATF rather than hydraulic oil. Check with the OEM for your hydraulic system before you do this, though.
