Cleaning a chip in a key is very easy. You will need to use either rubbing alcohol or Windex to carefully wipe down the chip. Do not press too hard when cleaning or you can potentially ruin the metal strip.
No it does not have a chip in the key. www.keylessride.com
It could. A gray key does have a chip, a black key does not.
That vehicle does not have an immobilizer, ensure chip contacts are clean and also ensure chip is in center of key before inserting into ignition. "SECURITY" light should not appear if you do it properly. (If you are trying to steal the car you need to get a life!)
Its a programmable chip inside of the key .
your car ha s vats is there a chip built on you ignition key? if so clean the key with a clean rag and alcohol the chip is a resistor if dirty it changes the resistance and security system rejects key this system has a ton of problems they make a bypass kit for this look on line for vats bypass kit
That little black chip with the metal contact point in your key has to be in center of key and the contact points should be clean. If security light goes on and car doesn't start don't keep trying to start it, wait about 3 minutes for security light to turn off, and clean the contact points on the chip in the key and you should make sure it is not shifting to one side of the key.
In 1999 it may or may not have one. If it has a thick black head with the hole in the head of the key being offset, then it is probably a chip key. If the hole is in the center top of the key or completely metal then it is not a chip key.
cause its having trouble reading the chip in the key,,im sure your security light was on too when it happened...

take the key to orchard supply. They have a free scanner for this if there is no chip they will make duplicates.
No, it doesn't. It uses a "passlock" system. The resistor, or "chip" is part of the ignition lock cylinder. The chip in the key is called "passkey", where there is a resistor in the key, which is quite visible.
