Depends on the "Sink" waste if it is a 2" sink waste a 3/8 cable will be fine.
3" house (building) drain allowable. 4" building sewer line needed for house from sewer main.
A little more detail about the sitsuation would help. New construction, remodel, sewer outlet in the house to street or sewer outlet in house to main going out of house.
4" is the standard house sewer main
Not normally even the connection to the public sewer is not covered
Your sewer line may have a crack or break in it which is not big enough to cause a blockage but could be leaking into the ground. A plumber could help determine if this is the case. Also, you could have a fresh water leak. Stagnant water smells like sewer if the water has been sitting on the ground for a long period of time. A plumber could test to see if this is the case.
Install a one way check valve in the line from the house to the sewer.
under ground behind your house.

Freakazoid - 1995 House of Freakazoid Sewer or Later 1-12 was released on: USA: 10 February 1996
The drain pipe has a blockage somewhere downstream from where the toilets are connected to the main sewer line from the house. All the drains in a house normally connect to one main line that either goes to the city sewer system or your septic tank. If you know where the sewer line exits the house, you could check there to see if the blockage is in the yard. Most sewer blockages are caused by tree roots, broken fittings, or crushed pipes. Good Luck
No you don't. The trap is inside the toilet.
ummmmm............. your not supposed to i suggest you get that checked!!
