While prevention is the best alternative (lots of water such as alternating a glass of water for every alcoholic drink), drink a couple glasses of water and take 2 aspirin or Motrin before having to get up for the day. Anoxia and dehydration are what causes most of the hangover effects. Eggs and tobasco sauce won't really help.

Much of how you feel the morning after is caused by a fluid shift/dehydration, since alcohol is a diuretic. So if you can remember to do so, drink a glass of water before going to bed to help offset that body response to alcohol use. There are many home remedies like eating Menudo (a Mexican soup), "hair of the dog" (a small drink of alcohol - not recommended), etc. But the only real "cure" is time and replacement of lost fluids. There are also B vitamins that can help since these are also depleted by excess alcohol consumption, ask a pharmacist for advice about the over the counter remedies. Drink and eat and rest. Start slowly with foods and try some plain crackers at first, then drink a glass of water or other low acid liquid. Avoid gulping down the liquids, sipping will feel better on your empty stomach.

A hangover is caused from the body losing fluid and becoming heavily dehydrated. In order to combat a hangover the best thing to do is to rehydrate. Water is a good remedy but a sports drink is the best option because it helps to increase electrolytes.
