Politely ask why, complaining might show that you are immature (no offense), give it some time, ask again in a few days or a week. If they still say no then try saying, "If I do *Insert chores or so on* for *Insert amount of time* will you consider getting a pet?" Also give them benefits of getting the pet, say "Hey, if we get *Insert pet type* it might help the family exercise more."
