Here is how I define 'fear':

2) the potential or imminent threat that excites such an emotion

VERB
1) to feel anxiety or apprehension by being exposed to a threat
2) to regard with reverence or obedience toward someone in authority, especially God or another sacred being

Fear is a strong unpleasant emotion that causes a person to retreat when confronted by danger, difficulty, opposition, or pain.
Fear of the number thirteen.
Wealth does not define personality.
Define the theory of personality.
== == Sounds like the type that encourages you to do something ... OR ELSE something bad will happen. Some political ads are like that... such-and-such person supports immigration, so if you elect him, we'll be overrun by foreigners... such-and-such person supports gun control, so if you elect her, we won't be able to defend ourselves from burglars anymore... things like that. If the propaganda is focused on something that you don't want to happen, then it is fear propaganda. An easier way to define fear propaganda is it scares you into buying their product by saying something bad will happen to you
Aqua-phobia.
The fear of spiders.
Generally one would "define," and not "explain"a word such as fear.

Religious beliefs can be defined as the psychological [FEAR] programming skillfully implanted into the subconscious mind of a neophyte.
There does not appear to be a scientific term to describe a fear of polystyrene. If your fear begins to negatively affect the quality of your life, or your happiness, then please consult a doctor to help you to address your fear. Perhaps if you define what it is the phobic is afraid that polystyrene might do, or cause to be done, it might be possible to put a temporary label on the phobia.
Inherent traits define our actions. His inherent fear of flying incapacitated him. That unruly child is inherently evil!
The word 'fear' as used, especially in the Authorised version (King James version) of the Bible is a perfect example of how words have changed over time and now have a slightly different meaning. The word 'fear' as in 'we should fear God' does not mean that we should be scared of him, as the modern meaning of the word should suggest. Instead, the word 'fear' means 'a healthy respect for', or to 'stand in awe of' him - or, even more accurately, a mixture of the two.
