No. Clearing the cells in a table is typically just erasing the data in them. Deleting them would be getting rid of that column or row (or cell) completely along with the data inside.
clearing cells, removes the contents of the selected cells (the cells are undisturbed and calculations using them are still valid)deleting cells, removes both the contents and the cells themselves from the table (as the cells no longer exist any calculations using them are invalid and result in errors)
Pressing the Delete key will get rid of the content, though not the cell itself. If you want to get rid of the cell itself, then select it, right click on it and pick the Delete option from the shortcut menu. You can then choose how you want the cell to be removed, either moving the cells below it up, or moving the cells to the right back one cell to replace the deleted one.
You can render the workbook useless.

To delete their content only, just press the Delete key. To delete the cells completely, right click, select Delete... and choose the appropriate option, to either delete cells and move cells up or left, or to delete and entire row or column.

At any one time there is always at least one cell on a worksheet selected. If you want to do anything with any cells, you have to select them. You cannot do anything without selecting cells. Be it editing, copying, deleting, cutting, pasting, creating charts and so on, you need to select cells. If you could not select cells, then you would have no connection to the worksheet and could no do anything on it. So, when do you select cells? - Always. Why do you select cells? - To do anything you need to do on the worksheet.
There are no known cells that can live without DNA. DNA contains the genetic information necessary for cellular function, including the production of proteins and the regulation of cell processes. Without DNA, cells would not be able to replicate, maintain their structure, or carry out the essential functions required for survival.
