How do you detach yourself from your therapist?

If you mean "wean" yourself from him/her... lengthen the time between visits. If you want to get rid of them, just do not go back. The therapist is a professional not your friend. You can also bring up the subject with the therapist in question (assuming the situation is not a dysfunctional one), and the two of you can come up with a "weaning off" plan that would be appropriate for you.
