BSE ( breast self exams) should be repeated the same day of every month a year and is best to do after your mensrual period. Also, annualy mammograms will help to detect breast cancer.

1. Lying down:

Place a pillow under your right shoulder. Put your right hand under your head. check your entire breast area with the fingers of your right hand. Use small circles and follow an up and down pattern. Use light,medium, and firm pressure over each area of your breast. gently squeeze the nipple for any discharge. Then repeat the steps with your left breast.

2. Infront of a mirror:

Put your hands to your sides, and look at your breasts for any changes in size, shape and color of each breast. Check for puckering, dimpling, or changes in the texture of your skin. By gently squeezing both nipples, look for discharge. repeat the exam with your hands on you hips then above your head.

3. In the shower:

I feel that in the shower is the best meathod to use. the wetness of the shower will make it easier for you to feel lumps on and around your breast area. To conduct a self-exam for breast cancer, the person should lie on a bed with the arm of the side of the breast being checked raised to above your head. The person should then proceed to start from the center and press down on the breast with the fingertips and spiral out from there at short intervals to check for lumps. When done, repeat on the other side. The person should then stand up and face the mirror and visually check the breasts for any odd asymmetries, puckering or leakage from the nipples (assuming one is not currently breastfeeding).
