Winchester has a website that lists most of the models all you have to do is put in the serial number and it will show you the date of manufacturer.
Probably by asking the manufacturer, but if he's no longer in business you might at least find earliest possible date from a history of the company or from a dealer.

The manufacturer may be able to provide an estimated date of manufacturer by the model number. Color codes and revision numbers (usually at the end of the model number) can give the OEM a good idea of which production group your unit came out of. To determine a more specific date, the manufacturer will need at least the model and serial number to determine date of manufacturer. This, however, doesn't account for the time between when the unit was made and when it was purchased (which could potentially be a very long time). Date of purchase cannot be determined by either model or serial unless the product was registered by the consumer. Even then, it's a 50/50 shot whether the OEM actually retained this information or just sold it to a third party for marketing purposes. Keep your receipts.
You are out of luck. Firearm serial numbers are not unique like automible VINs. Most manufacturers start with 1 for each model and increment. Some incorporate a date code in the number, but it still may not be unique to that manufacturer or model.

The manufacturer places a best-used by date on the packaging. The store doesn't do that. The date provides a time frame where the manufacturer figures it will have the best flavor and texture.
Yes it does but you might have to contact the Manufacturer. The code at the bottom of the can (or even the date) is not the expiration date. Its most likely the date in which it was made.
