You carefully follow, step-by-step, the instructions that you will find in a shop manual such as Hayne's or Chilton's. Wiki Answers cannot supply diagrams or pictures and, so, would be the wrong tool for completing this activity.

Should be a 1971 Type 3
California Pacific JBugs sells parts for VW type 3 cars such as the VW Squareback, Fastback, and Notchback. They sell many different parts such as complete interiors, window and body seals, door panels, seat upholstery, and carpet kits.

If the vehicle has the 4 cylinder engine it has a 125C 3 speed automatic transaxle. If the vehicle has the V6 it can have the 125C 3 speed automatic transaxle or the optional 440T4 Automatic Overdrive transmission. I found no reference to a procedure to adjust the bands for either transaxle in my 1989 factory service manual.

do vw jetta,s have 3 cylinder motors
It is called a 31TH.
"Type 1" - the "Bug" "Type 2" - the "Bus" "Type 3" - umm, well; it's a Type 3. You know, Squareback, Fastback, Notchback... Google "Type 3" for images. "Type 4" - looks like a Type 3, but had the Porsche-style 2000 cc engine, disc brakes up front, and a lot of cool options available. Rare, and expensive to maintain. TMI?
It takes the same "DOT 3" type brake fluid most cars take.
