Press lock tab in and then pull.
REMOVAL 1. Disconnect the negative terminal connnection on your battery. 2. Locate your starter and disconnect the electrical connectors. 3. Remove the starter bolts. INSTALLATION Reverse of removal instructions. Hope this helps
1. Disconnect the negative battery cable. 2. Disconnect the starter electrical connectors. 3. Remove the 2 starter mounting bolts. 4. Remove the starter motor. 5. Installation is the reverse of the removal procedure. Tighten the starter motor bolts to 33 ft. lbs. (44 Nm).
Disconnect wires then two bolts holding starter to trans.
disconnect the negative battery cable. raise the vehicle. remove the 2 electrical connectors on the starter solenoid. remove the 2 bolts holding the starter in noting the position of the starter shim if equipped with one. remove starter from vehicle. installation is the reverse. You will have to remove the exhaust cross over pipes first.

REMOVAL 2.4L 4-Cylinder Disconnect and isolate negative battery cable. Raise and support vehicle. Remove solenoid wire from solenoid terminal (STARTER ELECTRICAL CONNECTORS - 2.4/3.7L). Remove battery cable from stud on starter solenoid (STARTER ELECTRICAL CONNECTORS - 2.4/3.7L). Remove 2 starter mounting bolts (STARTER - 2.4L) and remove starter from vehicle. 3.7L V-6 Disconnect and isolate negative battery cable. Raise and support vehicle. Remove 2 flange bolts securing left exhaust downpipe to crossover pipe. Lower pipe slightly to allow front propeller shaft removal. Remove front propeller shaft. Remove 2 starter heat shield bolts at side of starter (STARTER HEAT SHIELD - 3.7L). Remove starter heat shield nut at front of starter (STARTER HEAT SHIELD - 3.7L). Remove starter heat shield. Remove solenoid wire from solenoid terminal (STARTER ELECTRICAL CONNECTORS - 2.4/3.7L). Remove battery cable from stud on starter solenoid (STARTER ELECTRICAL CONNECTORS - 2.4/3.7L). Remove 2 starter mounting bolts (STARTER - 3.7L). Position front of starter to face rear of vehicle. Rotate starter until solenoid position is located below starter. Remove starter from vehicle by passing it between exhaust pipe and transmission bellhousing.
To find the starter in a 2004 Kia Rio, disconnect the negative battery terminal and remove the four upper intake manifold support bracket bolts. Disconnect the S and B terminal connectors to show the starter.

Disconnect the battery. The starter should have two or three bolts holding it in. And there will be wires connected on it. Loosen the bolts and wiring connectors, then remove the starter from its mount.
Disconnect battery, remove wires off of starter remembering where they go, then loosen two nuts holding the starter . Reverse to re connect/install
