How do you dismantle GM tilt steering to remove the inner column this application is in a hotrod?

Remove the steering wheel, which you need a pullet for, then remove the screw holding the turn signal stem down to the blinker cam, then remove the blinker cam. (The blinker cam will be a white plastic piece, secured with screws. It cancels the blinker when you turn, so if that is not happening, this is the part you would change.) Now, depending on if it is before, or after, 69. Reason being, at 69 they cam out with the locking column, with the lock, and tumbler on it, so there is a little difference, but, not much. A column shifter would very this a little as well. After you remove the blinker cam, tight against the shaft you will see a ring, that fits into a groove on the shaft. If it is a locking column, the ring will also secure down the star wheel, which, is what locks the column. After you remove the ring, and the star, if needed, you will see a bearing around the shaft. The shaft will pull out the bottom of the outer sleeve, which will expose both, upper, and lower bearings. Simply reverse the process for re-assembly. It is a pretty easy task, but, as always, watch how it comes apart. If you happen to have one out of a 76, Trans am, only, it will have a blank spot on the shaft bottom where it has to match up with steering box. Watch for this! Only year, only model, and only on the T/A, for some reason. I doubt you are up against that, as they are really rare.
