For 1995 and newer vehicles, it would be so much easier to have someone read the codes with a ODB scanner/reader.
Many auto parts stores will retrieve the codes for free - can't beat the price.

Yes - Provided that the self adjusters have not seized from rust. That is quite common with drum brakes. Some year Sables have rear disc brakes. Those self adjust also. The Taurus /Sable rear disc adjusters are just as bad at seizing from rust as the drum adjusters. -On occasion I've even had to remove them and fit a whole new adjuster.
Codes will not self-display on a 2007 F-150 FX4. A code reader will be necessary to determine what is wrong with the engine if there is a check engine light displayed.
it is under the car just behind the engine in the exhust pipe but if it needs to be replaced take it to a muffle shop its not a doit your self unless it bolts in but most have to be welded

Pretty simple connect an obd2 scanner and it will pull the error codes for the check engine light then look up the error code and diagnose and fix your problem
Do one side at a time so you have one complete one for reference. If you're not familiar with brakes I would recommend purchasing a repair manual for that vehicle. It will save you time and money.
