Another way to convert an image to greyscale while still being able to add new colours and retaining full enhancement capabilities is by decreasing the saturation of the image:
- Under the ENHANCE menu, click 'Hue and Saturation' or you can bring up the menu by pressing the F4 key (for Windows).
- Drag the slider under the saturation option all the way to the left (check the 'Preview' box if it isn't already)
- Under the ENHANCE menu, click 'Brightness and Contrast' or you can bring up the menu by pressing the F3 key (again Windows shortcut only)
- Drag the slider right or left (with the 'Preview' option checked so that you can see what's happening) until you're happy.
- Under the EFFECTS menu, go to the 'Fine Arts' submenu and click on 'Threshold'.
- Drag the slider right or left until you're satisfied (again make sure that the 'Preview' option is checked so that you can monitor your changes before clicking OK)
