How do you do pyography?

Pyrography is usually done on wood. Most people today use a tool similar to a soldering iron to burn the designs into wood. If you don't want to buy this tool you can use your stove to do pyrography.

You should of course be aware that you can severely burn yourself when you use this method.

Get some wire and some fine needle nose pliers and create designs out of wire. Now you can heat up the wire on your stove (gas or electric) and press the heated wire form into the wood. You will need to experiment in order to figure out what amount of heat is good etc. If you like your results remember what you did to achieve that result and try to create a design as uniform as possible by heating the wire designs to the same temperature every time.

While using the heated wire forms can get you some great results it can be very time consuming waiting for a tiny little piece to heat up. Especially if you need to repeat the pattern many times.

Wood burning tools can be bought for fairly cheap. If you really get into pyrography you may consider using one. If you have a soldering iron you can try using it but the tip may be too blunt and it may get too hot/not hot enough. Remember to use sand paper and a sharp carving knife to clean up the work and it will look a lot better.
