1. You collect the sample from the nest near the house in the woods in Jersey.
2. You take the helicopter back to Mews' lab.
3. Once there, you take the egg shell sample form the items bag.
4. A screen should pop up showing a bunch of supplies and a tv screen.
5. Follow the instructions shown on the screen.
PCR
In most of the countries the police are not allowed to get your DNA sample without the permission of the court.
That depends on the particular sample of DNA.
That would probably be polymerase chain reaction or PCR for short.
They both take a DNA sample
Take the shells back to the Mews lab and test them. The DNA analyzer will prove the existence of the Jersey Devil.
The DNA test, if done properly, proves the existence of the Jersey Devil. You still have to get: -- a footprint photo from the Himalayas -- a closeup photo of Nessie from Loch Ness -- a tooth from the chupacabra at Puerto Rico Once you have proved Nessie, the chupacabra, and the Jersey Devil, you will go to the Pacific Northwest (a new location in the helicopter) to hunt Bigfoot.
You use the helicopter to fly to the various locations on Cryptids Island. The GPS is initially set up for the Mews mansion and 4 other locations, and it is to your advantage to visit them in the order they are shown.(Mews Mansion)Loch Ness, Scotland (need a photo of Nessie)Himalayan Mountains (looking for proof of the Yeti)Puerto Rico (need a DNA sample of the Chupacabra)New Jersey (need a DNA sample for the Jersey Devil)(see related question)
It's not the chicken eggs, it's the egg shells from New Jersey. When run through the DNA testing, the egg shells from the nest in New Jersey prove the existence of the Jersey Devil.

Run the DNA test on the eggshells to prove the existence of the Jersey Devil. You will also need to prove Nessie and the chupacabra, and bring back the photo of the footprint from the top of the mountain in the Himalayas. When all but the Yeti are proven (Nessie, chupacabra, and the Jersey Devil), Mews will send you after the Bigfoot in the Pacific Northwest.
At the Mews lab, select a sample from your item bag, and the DNA test will start. Follow the instructions carefully and don't spill anything. When you have the tray completed, move ONLY the x-ray screen into the Developer and press the button. If you are successful, Mews will give you the results.

It isn't in the house, but you will see it after you go in the house. First go in the door, and as you walk around the house, you will see thumps. Go up into the attic, and a raccoon with red eyes will come out of a barrel. Grab the grappling hook, and head back downstairs. You will see the Jersey Devil in the window! Go outside, and you will see it fly away. Use the grappling hook and grab eggshells and return back to Mews. There you will use the DNA sampler and confirm the existence of the Jersey Devil.
You obviously have no chance to "catch" it. But you know it exists. Once it flies away from the old creepy house, use the grappling hook (from the attic) to climb the tree and collect the egg shells, evidence that it exists. Run them through the DNA tester at the museum.
Go upstairs, push the dresser left, and climb into the attic. After you get scared by a raccoon, pick up the grappling hook at the far right. Go back downstairs and you will get a bigger scare. Use the grappling hook to reach the top of the tree and recover samples from the nest there. DNA testing should prove the Jersey Devil exists.
