From the RuneScape homepage, click 'Pre-paid cards', then select 'Activate card'. From here, you will be prompted to login then enter your pre-paid card's pin. Upon confirmation, the membership will be credited to your account according to the color of the card (green = 30 days, red = 90 days).
Sometimes, there are promotions available for redeeming a pre-paid card so you not only get membership but also a bonus vanity item as a reward. These are usually announced on the RS homepage.

I am not sure whether the offer is still valid. You had to present your credit card; if you didn't cancel after a week, the membership was automatically renewed - as a paid membership.
