Why won't your toner cartridge work properly?
This is a very involved question. Laser toner cartridges can
develop many issues use, misuse and mishandling as well as in
shipping. If the cartridge won't fit into the printer it is best to
first there are no obstructions in the printer, such as paper
jammed paper or something. Then check the cartridge against your
old one to make sure it is indeed the same cartridge. With some of
the newer cartridges, the difference between, for example a HP 1200
high yield and a Canon FX8, is so slight that it might take you 5
-10 mins to spot the difference and no matter what you do a HP 1200
will not work in a Canon FX8 unless it is correctly modified by
someone with both experience and practice.
If it is a print defect then it could be anything. If it is
printing light and you just installed it, then it is probably
defective. If you were using it a while and the print is getting
worse it also may be defective but it could also be from a dirty
printer, the kind of paper you are printing on or using and about
10 other things.
If was working fine for a while and now it is leaking toner
slightly on to the page, it may be because you have used it all up
and the waste bin is full and having problems, which mean it is
time for a new one.
Outside of the basic stuff a lot of things can mess up a
cartridge. Dirt, paper dust, hair, paper clips, continued printing
with heavy weight paper or the wrong kind of paper, dropping,
banging or shaking a cartridge can all cause issues.
To really know what is wrong I or any experienced technician
would have to see a copy of the print defect, usually the cartridge
and occasionally the printer. The good side is most issues, in my
experience, are usually just troublesome but are easily and quickly
fixed without any real issues.
Also, if your printer keeps jamming incessantly, then it may not
be the cartridge at all but your printer. After so much use the
printers fuser or pickup rollers will start to fail and you will
incur all kinds of different issues. Don't toss the printer if it
starts to fail with one of these issues, both the fuser and pickup
rollers can be changed easily by a experienced technician.
