My nine year old does not get to watch movies, play Video Games, or do much other fun stuff until her chores are done. It is not done as a punishment. That is just the way things are. She isn't heavily loaded with things to do, but what she does have has to be done before she moves onto extra privileges each day. If they aren't done right, she goes back and does them again. She's learned the quicker she gets things done correctly, the more free time she gets each day. We also have a dry erase marker board on the fridge. It has a day by day chart on it. Her and her sister both have their chores clearly laid out on the chart so they know exactly what is expected of them each day.
