You don't need to engage the compressor clutch to recharge the system. In fact, you shouldn't engage it without refrigerant and oil in it, because the refrigerant carries the compressor oil in order to lubricate the compressor. But, to answer your question, you disconnect the low pressure switch, and run a jumper wire between the two female ends of the connector.
The clutch receives it's signal to engage from a pressure switch in the system. If there is insufficient refrigerant in the system the pressure switch will not close resulting in no power at the compressor clutch to make it engage.
You need to check that there is actually gas in the a/c system, because if the system is empty of gas , the clutch will not engage in order to protect the compressor.
The ac pressure cycling switch is designed to engage or dissengage the clutch to keep the proper pressure in the system.
Usually, on most cars, this means that the weather is cool or that there is insufficient refrigerant in the system. It can also be caused by a restriction in the AC system or high temperature or excessive amount of refrigerant in the system.
low freon
Check the following items......... 1. Freon levels. 2. Electrical harnesses for the a/c system. 3. Clutch air gap. 4. Pressure switches.....
Turn on ac and watch clutch on front of ac compressor. If clutch doesn't engage then AC relay is bad. Or you can follow the schematic on the side of the relay and use a volt meter to test it.
You could have air in the lines
The a/c clutch will not engage and the compressor will not come on.............
Most Likely Low With Freon.
check fuse or ac relay in under hood fuse box.. if out of coolant ac clutch will not engage, this is a safety feature!!
First, the clutch won't engage if the refrigerant level is low. Start there. Next, check the sensor at the receiver/dryer.
