The fact that you have child care things to arrange and other things planned to do is not the responsibility of your boss. It is up to you to have your things in order so that if you get a call to go to work, your child care needs are ready for you to drop your child or children off at day care and the other planned things that you had planned to do, you take care of them another time. Let us not forget, your new boss probably has hundreds of people waiting for the same job as the one he is calling you to go to. If you haven't got yourself and the things you have to do in orderr, likely he will call someone else. There is an old expression when your house is in order then go and apply for a job, but if you haven't taken the time to get everything in order don't blame your future boss if at the last minute he calls you and you aren't ready to go. That's not his problem.
