How do you explain science and technology to your uneducated kinsman in a conversational language?

Leave out the formulas and complicated language, and try to use as many hands-on examples as you can. Most of the time, if people can see it, they can understand it. Also, use as short and simple an explanation as possible. Break down the concept into its most basic idea, and explain it using examples or analogies, if you can think of any. Remember, too many details will just be confusing, so if you keep it brief most people will be able to pick up the gist of the idea, even if they don't understand the math behind it.
