How do you explain to your ex what went wrong?

R was the first boy I dated 6 years after my first love died in a car crash. I felt so comfortable with him, and he was amazing. However, a few months into our relationship, I was having anxiety attacks when he wasn't around - feeling guilty for loving again, worried that God would take him away too, thinking I wasn't worthy of love again. I began taking it out on him, snapping at him, purposefully causing fights. It got to the point where I was yelling at him every other day. Eventually he broke up with me, thinking that he was finally seeing the real me. I went through therapy and I began to feel so much better. And then R began calling again, out of the blue. 6 months after he dumped me. He mentioned he missed me, wanted to see me. Now we talk on the phone every week or so, hour conversations. But we never see each other, and I know he's scared of getting hurt again. How on earth do I explain to him that I've gotten better, that I still love him, and that I can accept his love?? -Finally healthy, but heartbroken.
