Each Girl Scout council has their own forms for the GS Gold Award. Usually a Girl Scout will attend a training which will help her learn how to fill out the forms and complete the requirements. Girl Scouts should also have an adviser for their Gold Award project and the adviser and/or troop leader should guide the Girl Scout through the whole process.

Were there any female Eagle Scouts?

Yes there was! (by accident) Early on in the "Lone Scout" a few slipped through not knowing or asking if they were male. Also the "Venture Scouts" had a path to Eagle very early on in the organization that a few more females got, and got to maintain the award.

Would being a Girl Scout help you get into West Point?

There are many aspects to applying for West Point. One of those aspects is leadership -- in student government, clubs, and organizations. So, yes, being a Girl Scout can help if you take on leadership roles in Girl Scouts. Earn awards, especially the Girl Scout Gold Award. Be a Leader-in-Training (LIT), A Counselor-in-Training (CIT) and a Program Aid (PA) -- anything in Girl Scouts that will show your leadership skills. Be active in all levels of Girl Scouts including being a delegate to the annual meeting. Most important, do these early! Don't put off earning your Girl Scout Gold Award until your senior year of high school!

Can you protest for your Girl Scout Gold Award?

If you are thinking about staging a protest as your Girl Scout Award project, it probably would not be allowed. It would not fit within the guidelines of a Gold Award project. However, you could set up your project to be about changing something that you think needs to be changed. You have to be able to set a goal and show how you reached that goal. The project also has to be sustainable, something that will continue. Rather than protesting, you should be prepared to present your idea to those who can help make the change. If you are asking about protesting a Gold Award project that has been rejected by the Gold Award Committee in your council, this is part of the process of getting a Gold Award approved. Read through why the committee rejected the project and see if you can make changes in your project to fit the guidelines better. Then go back to the Gold Award committee or adviser and share your changes with them. Be prepared to make more changes and to ask them for suggestions about things you could change.

Can you be a Girl Scout but not be in a troop?

Yes. You can be what is known as a "Juliette" or Individual Girl Scout. Contact your local council for more details. Depending on your Girl Scout council, there may be a staff person who will work with you or else you will need to find an adult to register and be your adviser. With the adult's help, you may earn badges and awards. As for Girl Scout awards showing up on a college resume or application, you will put that information on the resume or application yourself. Mainly keep track of the number of years you were a member of Girl Scouts, what you did to earn the Girl Scout Gold Award, and any other significant awards earned or received as a Girl Scout.
