Have you tried to use windows search tool just click start ->search for photos/videos. This will search your haddrive for photos, you can then sort the photos by date and that should bring em up for you.
Windows Phone 7 has an icon on the front screen that gives access to the photos. There isn't any file level access to photo's without using Zune or windows phone transfer app to transfer the photo's to computer.
