Basho is the Haiku Poet in the small lake house at the far left of Red Dragon Island. Go there after you have gotten the message from Jack and Annie at the Fortress. Along the way, pick up the rotten fish and the bag of mortar.

Basho is the old man far left on the island. You must first go to the sumo Wrestling match and fight for the scared wrestler far to the right. just make the opponents face turn red and jump at the right time, the samurai will want to see your passport and Basho will save you but, he wants you to come back with him for training but, you must make sure you have helped the freak under the bridge he won't give you and award but, Basho is watching which is good. First, you have to talk to the old poet in the west of the city (which is at the very end of the city). When you get to his house, you'll see a bag. Get the bag and talk to the poet. Then go to the great bridge and show the bag to someone standing on it. After that you'll play a game and fix the bridge. Once you fix the bridge the Yokozuna (sumo) will run across the bridge and drop his scissors. Get them and go to the Bonzai store and cut trees for the lady. Then go to the sumo match and help somebody sign papers. Then go to the far right of the building and talk to another sumo. You will take his place and fight the Yokozuna. You keep jumping over him and he finally falls off the edge. The guards will get mad at you but then Basho comes to save you. He then trains you to be a ninja.
