By using freeware utility called CPU-Z by which I find out many useful information about my computer's CPU, mother board and RAM.
depends on what component it is. if it is like the your wireless card, sound card, graphics card(depending if your connected to your mother board through VGA) or anything like that, the computer will find away around it. but if it is the the CPU, mother board, power supply, or any important components usually it wont work.

The problem is either a mother board failure or a hard disk failure (or bus failure). You need to have it diagnosed to find out what the problem is and what steps there are to correct it. You can probably use your original system software CD ROM to boot from; if that DOES work, then the problem is the hard drive. If that doesn't work, it's the mother board or bus.

You won't find this answer in Dell's service manual and I have not found it on the web but I have finally located the battery It is on the bottom of the mother board and it is soldered on.you need to remove everything from this computer case to get the main board out. Dell expects you to buy another board to fix the problem. I'm still trying to locate the exact replacement.
