Right Click "My Computer" on your desktop and select Properties. See if it says "Service Pack 2" or says "Service Pack 1"...
Note: If it doesn't say anything, it means SP1

You can find this out in safe mode. Restart your computer and press F8 like a mad man, then select safe mode.
You can find out by either looking in the manual or going to control panel, search information, go to system and maintenance, and system will show a you everything about your computer.

All editions of Windows XP except Windows XP 64-bit Edition (not to be confused with Windows XP Professional x64 Edition) are compatible with the Core i3 processor. For the best performance and full support, you should have Service Pack 3 installed, or Service Pack 2 on Windows XP Professional x64 Edition.
In order to install Windows Service Pack 1 open the control panel from the bottom left of the screen and click on WIndows Update. Service Pack 1 will be available if not already installed on the computer.
The general tab of System Properties provides a basic list of information about the system. Here is a layout and explanation of the information: System: * First line is the installed OS. (Example: Windows XP Home Edition, Windows Media Center Edition) * Version Year, this is the release year for your specific installation. Finding out which Windows Vista service pack is installed is fairly simple. Go to Start, Control Panel, System Maintenance and then the System link. It should show which pack is installed.
You need Windows XP installed before you can install Service Pack 3. However, if your installation media already contains Service Pack 3, then you do not need to worry about installing it since it will already be installed.
