if it is to your modem then you would take your mouse and hover over the 2 PC symbol ins the bottom left and it should say 10mbt/s or 100 sometimes even 1000. but this can also be limited by the modems max transfer rate. and most wireless connections max at 54mbt/s

You notice that the network card has the capability to run on both 10Mbps networks and 100Mbps networks What must be done to allow this card to run on one network type or the other?

By definition nothing, the card should automatically detect which type of connection it has, but it should be noted that the other hardware that makes up the network needs to be able to operate at the speed that you want. That is if some component that makes up the connection between your computer and the one you are communicating with is at the 10mbps speed then the whole connection will be running at that speed.

Will the PC network speed increase if hub is replaced with switch?

Any speed difference will not be detectable. Check that the hardware is all capable of 100mbps. If most components are capable of 100MBPS but a couple components are only working at 10MBPS, the entire network will run slower. Also, when some components that your computer want to access are turned off the network will noticably slow. For example, if your computer wants access to a printer on another computer, your computer may run noticably slower.

How many bits are in a byte in a computer?

There are 8 bits in a byte.People use a lowercase 'b' to mean "bits" and an uppercase "B" to mean bytes. So if a hard drive has 500GB, that's giga-bytes. But if a network cable lists its speed as 10Mbps, that means 10 mega-bits per second.
