I posted a hotlink under the "related links" heading below.
It's a database where you can submit the model and serial numbers and look up the date of manufacture.
Winchester started using the G prefix to the serial number in January 1969.
yes you can
2006 if it is using the Browning date system
You should be able to contact Winchester and see if you may find the year of production by serial number thru there archives. If not I do have the manufacture dates of the first 250,000 made. You will need to have your serial number available to research the date of manufacture.
In the year 1978, Winchester began building model '94 rifles using serial number 4565926.During that year,96,285 model 94's were produced.Serial 4580182 seems to fall into that time slot.
Winchester started using the letter G in the year 1970 for the model 70 bolt action rifle.
If it has a serial number, by using the serial number. However, before 1968, no law required rifles and shotguns to HAVE a serial number, and many less expensive guns, such as .22 rifles, did not have a SN. If there is none, we can only go by the range of years that model was made.
You can determine the age. Often you can find the configuration of the gun by ordering a letter for its serial number from the Winchester Museum ($55), but it is cheaper and easier to determine this by looking at the gun. And one of the most important factors affecting the value of a gun or any other used object is the condition. The serial number does not tell you if it is in like new condition or broken and rusty. You can, however, detrermine the age by going to the following site and entering the serial number. http://armscollectors.com/sn/winlookup.php
JC Higgins never made shotguns. That is a Sears model number. Shotguns were made by other companies using the Sears brand name- JC Higgins. Yours is likely a High Standard shotgun. If it has no serial number (most did not) it was made prior to 1968. Serial numbers were not required by law until then.
It was made in the last year of production- 1925. A few were assembled in later years using left over parts.
The Model 1400 (affectionately called the Mark I - my note) made its first appearance in 1964 using the Model 1200 slide action of a rotating, locking lug bolt and a gas valve system. In 1966, the Model 1400 was made available in with the new Winchester recoil reduction system.
yes they do.The browning firearms company began using a two letter system to help date production of there firearms in 1975.
