What are the common uses of a litmus paper?

The uses of litmus paper to find out the pH of solution. i.e., to check whether the solution is acidic, basic or neutral. Red litmus always turn to blue if the solution is basic. Blue litmus always turn to red if the solution acidic. They don't change their colour, if the solution is neutral. (7pH).

How are universal indicators useful to scientist?

An Universal Indictator is more helpful because it shows the exact amount of acidity. Other indictators (example the red and blue litmus) just indicates whether or not the solution is acidic. The universal indicator gives you a specific color to which you can match a pH number therefore, telling you how acidic the soultion is.

What do scientist use the pH scale for?

it is used for differentiating the specific acidity and alkalinity of substances and unlike litmus paper's the give the exact shade of color of say acids for instance, red, pink or orange. the level of acidity or alkalinity corresponds to an exact number on the pH scale

Litmus paper is an example of what kind of test?

Litmus paper is a threshold-specific acid-base test. ___________________________________________________________________ it is a test used to find the pH level of certain materials. it will turn blue if the object is basic and red if it is acidic.

What tells you the pH of a substance?

You have to use a special "color code" paper. Put the paper on the substance. Then use a pH scale to determine the color and that will tell you the pH of the substance. (You could use this information for a science fair project) Another way would be to use a pH meter- its more accurate but expensive.

What is used to find out weather the substance is acidic or basic?

A pH test will tell you if it is acidic or basic. A pH test checks for the amount of H+ (hydromium) ions in solution. Higher amount of H+ ions means acidic, and higher amount of OH- means more basic.

How can you find acids?

You can use litmus paper or purple cabbage juice to test if a substance is acidic or not. Blue litmus paper turns red under acidic conditions. If you search 'litmus paper chart' online you can find some pretty good charts to find just how acid the substance is.

Which organ would you find an acidic pH in?

Most of the body has a pH that is slightly basic. The only place in the body that is acidic would be in the stomach, where the stomach acid has a pH of 1.5 to 3.5, which is very acidic.

How would you use an indicator to find out if a solution is acidic-basic or neutral?

look at the pH level. If the pH is from 0 to 7, it is acidic. If it is exactly 7, that means it is water and it is neutral. 7 to 14 is basic.
