how often do i have to change the timing belt on my rover400
The GrandAm has an automatic belt tensioner built in. Loosening the belt manually would not be feasable without the removal of the belt tensioner at which point the belt would no longer fit.
I'm guess you're asking about relieving the tension on the belt? The tensioner swivels away from the belt, thus loosening the belt. This is done by putting a wrench or socket or whatever you can fit, onto the front of the tensioner and rotating it.
No you can not. If belt is loose, are won't fit then you have the wrong belt. The belt tensioner is spring loaded and that is what tightens the belt.
rotate the tensioner clockwise to release the tension and remove the belt then slowly release the tensioner. route new belt over the various pulleys according to the diagram under the hood again rotating the tensioner as to allow belt to fit in place and then slowly release the tensioner again.
You move the belt tensioner with a ratchet. Look and you will see that a 3/8 or 1/2 inch ratchet will fit in an opening in the tensioner pulley.
just a ratchet to fit onto the tensioner. crank the tensioner counter clockwise and it'll slack the belt.
Fit a new belt tensioner
It doesn't have one. It is a slip fit, flex belt that self tensions.
Pull it out and fit a new one
There is a spring-loaded tensioner pulley that keeps tension on the belt. The tensioner should have a place to fit a ratchet wrench or breaker bar (may or may not need a socket). The tensioner bar rotates clockwise or counterclockwise to release the tension on the belt. Be sure and note how the belt is routed so you will install the new belt in the same pattern. The tensioner is self-adjusting.
fit a socket to the nut on the tensioner and turn it anti clock wise.slip the drive belt of. put the new belt in place . turn the nut anticlock wise an d fit new belt
