If you have a 12volt tester, connect the clip end to the body of the car, next touch the probe end to the wire that the bulb is connected to. If the door switch is working and the door is open, the light on the probe will light. This circuit will go from the light through the body frame to the door switch and the problem may be in the door switch. These switches are mechanical and will rust out and need replacing, as rust becomes an insolator from the body ground.
