I asssume you have a dual map light assembly (sometimes with a moonroof control rocker sandwiched between the lights) and retracting sunglass holder.

If so, the only clip (metal) that holds the entire assembly against the headliner cannot keep proper tension due to a faulty design; plastic slots which keep the metal clip in place (on a good day) are too thin. Doesnt help when the clip has barbs which promote more damage. Thus, normal/repeated use of the console switches puts sttress onto the plastic housing around the clip...and it breaks.

There is also a removable/reusable plastic "pin" seen inside the sunglass holder when the door is the open position. If you look at it, you can see two areas on the head of the pin. Pushing in the center portion of the pin will allow the pin body to be pulled out. If your console is hanging by the wire harness(es), that means you dont have this pin anymore. For a temp fix, push in a suitable hollow-wall anchor into the chassis hole (area behind the push pin hole), replace the console, then drive a small wood screw with washer into it. This is TEMPORARY. So, you must find/buy the proper metal clip at a dealer or junk yard for a permanent solution. If you obtain the right clip, become familiar with the following instructions and observations:

A more thorough, permanent, fix is to remove and disassemble the console to strengthen the thin plastic walls surrounding the metal clip slots. To do this: remove the assembly, flip it upsied-down (notice the bottom center where the clip protrudes from), remove two screws of the map light assembly, lift off the light assembly, set aside. Now, you can clearly see the slots (centered at the bottom of the assembly)where the barbed ends of the clip slides into. You will see cracks on surrounding plastic areas, especially the corners. Epoxy* new plastic pieces** to strengthen the corners and surrounding areas. Reassemble.

If you are patient, mechanically inclined ,and want a repair that lasts, this system is for you. The following items were bought at Home Depot:

* LOCTITE Plastic Bonding System (activator pen and bonding glue)

** PRIME LINE Drawer replacement hardware (white plastic, 90 degree, 1" ea leg). You must use the Loctite bonding system. Regular "superglues" will not bond correctly to the type of plastic used in automobiles. Cut the plastic to fit in all areas which need attention. Prep all contact surfaces with the Loctite activator pen, lightly coat one piece, assemble and hold pieces with n-n pliers or your fingers. This bond is quick-set. So, be exact an decisive.

Hope this helps you...or anyone who has this problem which seems to plague Nissan ceiling consoles.
