How do you fix a 1996 ford contour electric window drivers side?

Here is how I fixed mine when the window would intermittently not raise or lower when activating the drivers side window button.. Remove the plastic trim around the door handle. There is one screw behind a plastic plug in the handle recess - use a small tip screw driver to pop it out. Remove the window button control pod. Disconnect the electric connector - pull on the wire harness just enough to take up any slack. Turn the plug & wire harness 180 degrees - reinsert in to switch pod - test for proper function - if good to go reinstall. If not try turning the harnes the other way.

Not scientific but it worked for me.

Be careful when removing trim - don't force or you'll breach the locking tabs.

The 1997 Ford Contours are great handling cars but are haunted with electrical issues - like inferior wiring harnes especially around the engine. - resoution to issues can take some time. I'm told the designer of this vehicle for Ford was Porsche. Must have been recent college grads - who would ever designe a car where it takes a bit over 1 hour to change a $1.38 PCV valve - very much longer the first time. A maual advise to remove the exhaust manifold to gain access - DUH!
