A 1997 Dodge Ram doesn't have a EGR valve.
It is located on the valve cover. It is usually white, or used to be white, and it has vaccum hoses connected to it. It pulls right out of the valve cover. Easiest fix on the truck.
look along the valve covers on the heads, there should be a small pipe that when pulled seems to go no where, that should be the PVC, it is a simple fix
Replace the valve cover gasket.
take it to a transmission shop. The problem is in the tcc valve body.
drivers's side valve cover.midway back from front of truck...this fix is easy...pull it out from the valve cover ...attached to small diameter hose...and shake it to see if it rattles...they are cheap so replace it...and if it rattles....U know its the right part B.C.
You have to take it apart to determine what is wrong before you can fix anything.
sounds like your PVC valve is not closing during the positive crank case venting process this is a cheap fix
Code P1443 is idle air Control (IAC) valve Speed fault
