one thing you might be able to do that my music teacher has said is to take the sliding peg and drill another hole in it for the string to go through farther from the edge of the pegbox as the original. NOTE: I mean the hole in the peg, NOT THE PEGBOX) Only do this if the string is touching the side of the pegbox as this could be the problem. This used to happen to a violist in my orchestra and he got really frustrated, and this is what he said to do.
Firstly, bent the tip of the string slightly so that it can "hook" or anchor on the peg. Next, place the end of the string into the bottom hole where the fine-tuners are. Turn the peg clockwise, until the note is reached. Make sure that the string is on the bridge, and in its respective positions.
The smallest string is string 1. it goes on the on the lower right peg when facing the front of the viola with the pegbox up. String 2 goes on the upper right peg. String 3 goes on the upper left peg. String 4 goes on the lower left peg. There should be some old strings on it. Put the news ones where the old ones are.

you definatly do not try to fix any musical instrument yourself. A simple thing like a warping bridge, or a broken peg can easily be taken care of by your local instrument supply store. Something more complecated, such as a crack, or a gouge in the varnish, might have to be shipped off to a more qualified professional.

To fix a string on a guitar, you need to first loosen the tuning peg for that string, remove the broken string, and then replace it with a new one. Make sure to properly thread the new string through the bridge and tuning peg, and then tighten the tuning peg to tune the string to the correct pitch.
To fix an electric guitar string, first loosen the tuning peg corresponding to the broken string. Remove the broken string from the bridge and the tuning peg. Replace it with a new string of the same gauge. Thread the new string through the bridge and the tuning peg, then tighten the tuning peg to tune the string to the desired pitch. Cut off any excess string.
If you're talking about the peg then that's a problem that affcts a lot of violists. You can go to your local music store and ask for a peg compound. These can be drops that u put around your peg to help it stick better. They shoul come with directions. If they don't then just pull your peg out slightly, put a few drops on, and push the peg back in. They're simple and will help the peg stick. If the problem persists, you may want to have it looke at. a new pe may be needed, but try the drops first.
