The smallest string is string 1. it goes on the on the lower right peg when facing the front of the viola with the pegbox up.

String 2 goes on the upper right peg.

String 3 goes on the upper left peg.

String 4 goes on the lower left peg.

There should be some old strings on it. Put the news ones where the old ones are.

How is sound made on a viola?

Either the player's fingers pluck the strings or he or she uses the violin's bow to rub on its strings, thus creating vibrations. The vibrations of the strings enter the violin's body through the bridge and are transmitted from its base to the back of the violin via the sound-post.The sound-post is a short wooden stick or peg that is placed just underneath the bridge inside the body, where it is wedged between the front and the back surfaces of the violin. Thus both the front and back of the violin are made to vibrate, making the sound become greatly amplified.Sound is produced by a violin when the strings are caused to vibrate. This vibration happens by either plucking the string or running a bow across it.

How do you fix a sliding viola peg?

one thing you might be able to do that my music teacher has said is to take the sliding peg and drill another hole in it for the string to go through farther from the edge of the pegbox as the original. NOTE: I mean the hole in the peg, NOT THE PEGBOX) Only do this if the string is touching the side of the pegbox as this could be the problem. This used to happen to a violist in my orchestra and he got really frustrated, and this is what he said to do.
